Welcome to KANYO, home to some of the best musicians of Africa’s past and present.

We’ve mentioned before that we had some big things in store, and now we are prepared to begin to deliver on that promise. We are extremely proud to introduce the KANYO DIGITAL STORE! Here you can easily download not only all of Kanyo’s great releases (including many download-only titles), but the music of other African labels and musicians as well - much of which is unavailable anywhere else. The entire catalogs of Dakar Sound and Cobiana Records are here, and much more is on the way. Plus, the KANYO DIGITAL STORE will be restocked with new titles frequently, so be sure to visit often.

To celebrate the opening of our store, we are introducing Kanyo’s first download-only releases. The first is Senator Barack Obama Hoyee by JAGWASI PRODUCTIONS. The second is When I Was In U.S. by OPIYO BILONGO & EXTRA GOLDEN. As if that weren‘t enough, we’re offering up a free track from each of these titles so that you can get a taste of just why we’re so excited here at KANYO HQ!

Speaking of OPIYO BILONGO and EXTRA GOLDEN, they will be on tour this summer throughout Europe and North America. You can find tour dates here. Mr. BILONGO’s KANYO debut, What Do People Want? is still getting parties started on many continents, as is Agwambo by his Kenyan colleagues BANA KADORI.

KANYO’s future is bright, too. This Fall we will be releasing the first volume of the magical Malian jazz of SORRY BAMBA DU MALI. The rarity of these recordings from the 1970s is exceeded only by the monetary value placed upon them by devious international record merchants. Needless to say, KANYO’s deluxe reissues will be slightly more reasonable.
